Add curator to Mr. Shaquille O'Neal's impressive resume. From breaking backboards to working to gain his PHD, Shaq is now curating the "Size Does Matter" show at The FLAG Art Foundation in New York City. The exhibition is on view from February 19th until May 27th and features some of the world's biggest art stars. Mel Bochner Via MIT Press

If you're up to date on things like the MIT Press then this is WAY old news but if you're like me, MIT isn't number one on the web surfing menu. Luckily all of the press's podcasts are archived and episode 12 interviews Mel Bochner. The interview touches on breaking the unspoken rule of artist as art critic/reviewer and how writing and language became part of his own work. I highly recommend giving the interview a listen as Bochner is engaging and candid. Plus, he made a bunch of work involving FAX machines which is just pretty sweet. See Bochner's pieces from the online gallery, This Long Century, here.

Nancy Holt

Nancy Holt is a Worcester-born artist best known for her public sculptures and land art. I first became aware of Holt a few years back when I very randomly stumbled upon a book of hers, Ransacked, at Printed Matter. Ransacked, which was published in 1980, is a series of photos and quotes from her Aunt Ethel that tell the tragic story of her elderly aunt being taken advantage of by her caretaker; her house literally being "ransacked." This book caught my interest because the house was located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a stone's throw from where I grew up. The above video, Swamp, is a collaboration between herself and her husband Robert Smithson and deals with the limitations of perception.

SSION Show at Peres Projects

Peres Projects is currently showing Boy, the first feature-length film from Kansas City punk phenom SSION. We first became acquainted with SSION as bff's of the always amazing Tilly and the Wall (SSION directed their "Beat Control" video and also produced cover art for their "o" record). The SSION (aka Cody Critcheloe) show is up until April 3 so go check it out while you have the chance. From there, the show will go to Peres Projects in Berlin from June 26 through August 7th.

Ooga Booga at The Swiss Institute

swiss_oogabooga01

Amigos took a trip to NYC to check out the Ooga Booga reading room at the Swiss Institute before it comes down this Saturday! We highly suggest you check it out and enjoy reading hundreds of zines and artist's books, for free nonetheless. There are some out of print, weird, and just plain amazing ones in there and it's nice to just sit back and enjoy them in a place that's not about purchasing anything.

RIP (Temporarily?) Art on Paper

Last night I was looking some stuff up about this show I had read about in Art on Paper and stumbled upon their website. Unfortunately it seems times were tough and they had to shut down operations for the time being. Total bummer, there was always at least something cool in each issue. In times like these, I like to look towards Mike. And the "Naughty" trailer.
