TO DO, LA Style

Not to repeat ourselves, but if youre in LA this weekend, you should 100% completely go to Art LA Contemporary and be sure to check out the "Book Party Room" organized by our pals over at Ooga Booga. OB is having all kinds of treats and surprises from a DJ set by Oliver Payne to a Sumi Ink Club drawing meeting. If one half of us weren't going to the Celtics/Lakers game tomorrow, we'd likely be there. I'm especially bummed to be missing the panel on Women in the Contemporary Art Market :( If anyone goes, please let me know how it is! XO

The New ANPQ

Just recently, the Amigos team received the new issue of ANPQ. Like most of the issues, it's top-notch but the Bill Owens interview is really top-notch. It's refreshing to read an interview with an artist who has done so much and also had to live somewhat of a normal life. From photographing one of the best glimpses into modern American culture to brewing some weird beers and continuing to work into his 70's, Owens is an inspiration. Even if you think it's weird that Altamont has used his photos or you just hate photography, be sure to grab a copy and check it out for yourself. If you don't like the interview I'm sure you'll find something you like in between Rodarte, Jonas Mekas, Rad Summer, Ojo, and more!

The Company of People Group Exhibition

If you're in LA this weekend, you should definitely check out the Company of People group show at Space 1520. The show starts at 6 and is offering a zine making workshop AND I.U.D. is playing. I'm officially jealous I'm on the wrong coast. The show features work from an array of artists including our favorite art bros, Peter and Andrew Sutherland. Be sure to check it out!

Karthik Pandian Blogging 4 Art 21 = 2 Good

Our talented and well-dressed pal Karthik Pandian is guest blogging over at Art 21 for the next few weeks. In his own words, "I'll be writing on the relationship between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon as seen through the lenses of magic, medievalism, IMAX, sunsets, petroglyphs and oh so many youtube videos." You can read his first post here. I definitely suggest checking out his posts (and be sure to watch the David Copperfield video) as his writing will be sure to keep you entertained.

Who Says Print is Dead?

Whilst unemployed and spacing out on the internet today, I stumbled upon this interview over at Bombsite.com with fellow independent art publishers Megan Plunkett of Kingsboro Press and Milano Chow of Medium Rare. According to these two independent presses, printing artist books and zines in such a sad economic time is very doable, as long as you keep your overhead low (i.e.) realistic and set your own principles that you can live with. Well said, ladies.

"Hands Wide Open" on display

We are psyched to announce that our second publication, "Hands Wide Open" by Dylan Goettlich is now being sold at the esteemed Ooga Booga store in Los Angeles. Here are a few photos of the zine on display in the store! You should definitely pick up a copy the next time you're there. We are super stoked to have our publication on the shelves next to so many other rad titles. Thanks OB!
